What the count cannot tell you
No reliable public source was found for a combined PC, PlayStation, and Xbox live total. Steam concurrency should never be relabeled as the total player population.
A global count also does not guarantee healthy matchmaking in your region, mode, or time zone. Server-browser activity at the time you play is the more practical check.
Launch demand context
Hotfix 1 noted additional official servers and server-browser changes to meet demand. That supports strong launch-period server demand, but it is not a long-term retention forecast.
