The first five minutes

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is presented as a 50v50 team game with specialised roles and orders. The fastest way to become useful is to listen before trying to lead.

Join a squad with an active leader, confirm that voice chat works, and ask where the squad needs you. If nobody is communicating, changing squads is usually more useful than trying to play around silence.

  • Spawn with the squad instead of choosing the closest-looking point alone.
  • Keep callouts short: direction, landmark, and threat.
  • Follow the current squad objective before chasing distant fighting.
  • Learn one role at a time rather than swapping after every death.

Choose contribution over score

The official overview puts roles, orders, and objectives at the centre of play. That makes personal score a weak measure of whether a new player helped the team.

A useful first goal is simple: stay near the squad, report what you see, and complete the job attached to your role. Do not take a scarce specialist role until you understand what the squad expects from it.

Evidence limit

The official material supports this team-first framework but does not publish a complete first-match tutorial. Exact role sequences should be checked against current in-game prompts and dated community guides.

A repeatable learning loop

After each match, identify one point of confusion and solve only that point before the next session. Examples include spawn logic, sector flow, a single role, or one communication channel.

  • Match 1: communication and staying with the squad.
  • Match 2: sector objectives and spawn choices.
  • Match 3: one support or combat role from start to finish.
  • Later: commander, aviation, tunnel, and other specialist systems after verified guides are available.
